Introduction

University Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) had been invited to participate in the PERODUA Eco-Challenge Race which will be held in June 2009.The purpose of this event is to create awareness among the public that good driving habit combined with a fuel efficient vehicle lead to lower exhaust emission, thus reducing environmental impact. In this race, the university will acquired a PERODUA Myvi 1.3L donated by PERODUA. Some modifications will be performed aiming to reduce the fuel consumption and produce less emission. However, those modifications were constrained by the strict Rules and Regulations made by PERODUA. Then the car will be sent to the race circuit at Speedway PLUS Circuit in Subang Jaya. The winner will be decided by the car which travel the longest distance with 1 liter of fuel. Besides, other criteria such as car decorations, aerodynamics design, presentations and supporter’s attendance also have their own points to contribute to the winning decision. 

In consequence of this competition, the participated undergraduates will broadly expose to the engineering situations where all their knowledge and skills will be applied to the real situations. Besides, they will also expose to the critical conditions where the quick and critical thinking need to be exercised to overcome the problems encountered. These skills are important for the undergraduates to become an excellent engineer in the future.

Finally, we hope that UTP-PERODUA Team will win this challenge and achieve all the objectives in conjunction of the UTP’s Vision which is to be a leader in Technology Educational and Center for Creativity and Innovation.
